When I was saying generic, I was thinking much wider than modems ...

AT commands work with modems - don't work very well with PBX systems, ISDN cards ... etc.

I do remember the days before AT commands were standard ... And i had to work with these modems. Okay so they were 300, 1200 or 4800 Baud and some we synchronous - and I was using MUMPS at the time.

What do you mean by "Generic Type" ?
AT commands ARE generic, infact my understanding is they are a standard.
I mean, EVERY modem I have ever used uses ATDT then the number to dial a phone.

I need the generic type support. So AT commands are out - looks like it will have to be TAPI then.

Thanks.

Couldn't you just use AT commands to a modem forcing it to do a blind dial, The problem with TAPI is
physically interfacing it with the phone system, you need a phone system that supports TAPI like controls
and in my exp you are usually dealing with an existing phone system

The only prob with the modem approach is that it wont work with a digital phone

Hi,

We want to add the ability to dial a phone number from a users machine ... About the only requirement is to dial the number - just to save the user from keying the number into the phone.

Is TAPI the way to go or are there other methods?

Any body got any code or components that help out here.

Thanks.

Myles.
