That explains it then, thanks. Cant use that path either as if the
webservice is hosted by an ISP we wont get access to it.

Have to resort to a named path - I will stick it in web.config.

Depending on the Operating system, the executing directory, when you do
a getcurrentdirectory (have used this to read INI) points to

XP:
        %SYSTEMROOT%\System32

2003:
        %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WebRoot (or something likethis)

This is as it refers to the executing point of the IIS service, and not
the directory of the actual application...

Nah, still no luck. If I manually move the dll (and only the dll) into
a named folder and get the webservice to access the named folder then
everything works fine. However, I dont want a named folder, I want to
use the same directory as the parent dll.

Is there the equivalent of getcurrentdirectory in dotnet ?

The aspx file go into the root of the service, these are the files that
the call the code in the dll (the service being one as well).

Root/
        *.aspx
        global.asmx
        bin/
                *.dll
                *.pdb

What are the aspx and pdb files, do they have to be there with the dll ?

When executing an assembly from a dotnet webservice, where does the dll
reside. I have the childdll in the same directory as the parentdll.
But the parent cant find it.
