Q1: contractor (although has been to the same business for years now).
Q2: We use all of the ways you mentioned - both visual and non-visual. We make components (although we are the only ones that use them) and use other components. We do GUI stuff, and server stuff. We have some legacy stuff that uses the BDE, but now if we use a database at all it's Firebird/Interbase.
