Hi,
I need to purchase a new PC and it's
been suggested that I choose a widescreen monitor as being the best option but
I'm not so sure. I have an LCD projector in my home theatre (so I don't
need a screen to watch multimedia on my PC) however it has a
native 16:9 format which isn't always the best.
Changing the format is a pain, I have
to change the projector's settings and slide it towards the screen for 3 x 4 viewing so I don't bother. As a
result, for TV viewing, footballers look chubby like a rugby ball on its
side.
Q1 Will this be a disadvantage with a
widescreen monitor? Will my CAD applications draw squashed circles or can
I set them up to maintain the correct ratios?
Q2 Will I lose room heightwise and
hence have to reduce the vertical picture size?
Q3 I will probably gain (spare) space
horizontally but is this going to be distracting or can it be put to use by
better arranging the desktop, or even allowing room to put an application's
menus and toolbars?
Q4 I have a considerable investment in
CAD applications which I don't want to have to replace for the sake of a new
monitor so should I go for it.
Recommendations please.
Regards
Colin
