I cant see PostgreSQL being difficult, in fact with its wide range off
languages for stored procs it has to be ahead of
MS SQL in terms of programability, My main issue with
MSDE/Express/Whatever they want to call it next is that there is no
guarantee of continuiuty, Last time they pulled out the SQL Agent, what
will they do next?

I use SQL everyday and I am familiar with SQL Server, and it does everything
I want to.
The thing with Firebird...and its been a while since I looked at it to be
honest, was the whole thing around having to use that DLL....whos name I
forget at the moment....UDL maybe?? That you had to use to get some basic
functionality in stored procs. Like string manipulation etc. It just adds
complexity to the install etc. IMHO.
But THEN, I am also interested In seeing IB 7 too at the seminar. I must
admit I am waiting till then to make my final decision :-)

Hi All.
When I was looking at MSDE I remember reading about how it was limited
to between 5 and 8 concurrent processes at one time. I say between 5
and 8 because some sites said 5 others said 8....even the MS
documentation seemed to differ from 5 to 8........ANYWAY.....now I am
looking at SQL 2005 Express...I think thats what its called
now.....and it "appears" that is only limitation apart from some
features, is that it can only have a 4GB db.
Is this what others understand too? is anyone else using SQL 2005
Express now?
Do specifically want limits or want SQL Server compliance? Its just that
there are other free databases out there with no limits at all - Firebird
and Postgres for example. Obviously products like Firebird aren't SQL Server
(in terms of supporting products for example), but it depends on what you
are looking for.
