OK, I think a bit of discussion about the design is then needed before I
do some more work on this.
For the shared code, do you think both the checking logic + the dialog
should be enclosed in a function in gtkui.py, or these should be separated
with the logic in client.py?
I am currently looking into why the listening port binding failure never
causes an alert to be logged.
