That's what I did and it worked in case anyone searches for the solution.

cp /usr/share/app-install/desktop/denemo\:denemo.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/
chmod +x denemo\:denemo.desktop
and changed Exec=denemo to Exec=env UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0 denemo

I managed to create a launcher for Denemo that works around the mistake
that Ubuntu made, and I saw that the problem was discussed on Ubuntu
forums. I am using Debian and don't have the details to hand
unfortunately. There are instructions to build Denemo from source on
denemo.org and I have helped newbies do this - the current Denemo
version has a lot of improvements.
