Follow-up Comment #2, bug #50176 (project denemo):
I occurs to me that this overwriting may not happen if the user starts the
installation with elevated permissions.
That is, it may be the result of windows returning an empty string for the
PATH before asking for the administrative password to re-write it - that would
result in an over-write.
Can you check what happens if you start the install with elevated permissions?
