Follow-up Comment #3, bug #50176 (project denemo):
I could not reproduce the original problem; installation now worked well
with/without elevated permissions. I can only guess that by coincidence my
PATH variable had been overwritten with an empty string shortly before
installing Denemo.
Sorry for the confusion; case can be closed.
