Dear distinguished Ray community members:
A workshop called 'Summer 2012 Week 3: Next Generation Sequence Analysis' organized by the Institute for Computing in Science (Argonne National Laboratory (U.S.A.) took place from July 28, 2012 to August 4, 2012 in Park City, Utah [1]. I was invited to present Ray, RayPlatform, workflow experiences and design/implementation challenges. I presented Ray (the different steps in the algorithm) as well as RayPlatform, the development framework and parallel runtime engine on which Ray is based. One of the redundant things that was highlighted was the need for more distributed de novo metagenome assemblers for those very large metagenome samples. Another thing that was highlighted was the need for alignment-free methods to analyze sequence data. Is there any person on the Ray mailing list that is doing metagenomics, and that needs sophisticated distributed software to get the most out of their data in metagenomics ? If so, we would like to hear from you, and we would like you to share your needs and your experience with Ray (what you love in Ray and what you hate in Ray). p.s. We have a submitted about Ray Méta (scalable distributed denovo metagenome assembly with Ray) and Ray Communities (taxonomic profiling using colored de Bruijn graphs). The software is already available as Ray 2.0.0.
