Using newsyslog, there's no "N" (which would prevent a signal being sent
to entry for denyhosts.log or security (which has never been used since
2002). Auth.log has sshd entries, but nothing saying anything was
denied. I did, however, add /var/run/denyhosts.pid to the end of it's
entry in newsyslog.conf.

I just restarted denyhosts and this is in /var/log/denyhosts:

2008-05-12 15:12:05,908 - denyhosts : INFO sync_time: : 3600
2008-05-12 15:12:05,908 - denyhosts : INFO sync_sleep_ratio: 120
