I've also seen DH stop syncing and then stop working; this is in a different environment from yours: Gentoo Linux (2.6.23-gentoo-r8 kernel). > Basically after a random amount of time, denyhosts will hang and quietly > stop blocking attacks. The only way you know this is to actively monitor the > logs and see it has stopped logging. [snip] In the logs I see a different error message, it was a 'Connection timed out' while syncing. Also I see a warning in the log about "purge verification failed", there's a line with an extra character on hosts.deny (the first line since it was there since April 10). Something else I have seen, and not for the fist time, at the top of hosts.deny there are a lot of lines w/o the time-stamp comment. I've deleted those manually for a couple of times, now its the third time I deleted those. The DH's log stopped last Sunday, and there's a current attack on my ftp server which is not being stopped... so I'll restart DH. DH then adds a lot of hosts to hosts.deny, so it looks like tracking the log file had also stopped (perhaps also added some it had received through sync when it stopped, it did add the current attack, but the number of added hosts seems large for the 2 days it was stuck). That's the only workaround I can think off, restart DH periodically. -- René Berber ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
