I didn't use an RPM directly.  I did "yum install denyhosts" on fc8.
The version I have is:

denyhosts-2.6-7.fc8

I'll try copying daemon-control-dist to /etc/init.d/denyhosts and see
what happens (of course I'll copy off the original somewhere first)
