I've been getting errors like this: sshd[73005]: warning: /etc/hosts.allow, line 11: can't verify hostname: getaddrinfo(100.117.178.220.broad.static.hf.ah.cndata.com, AF_INET) failed kernel: pid 73005 (sshd), uid 0: exited on signal 11
this error popped up on every connection attempt until I temporarily commented out line 11, which is: ALL : /etc/hosts.deniedssh : deny None of this gets logged to the denyhosts log; in fact, there is nothing in the last 30 days except for stuff like: Feb 18 00:00:00 mail newsyslog[50653]: logfile turned over Feb 19 00:00:00 mail newsyslog[14874]: logfile turned over Feb 17 00:00:00 mail newsyslog[15580]: logfile turned over Feb 18 00:00:00 mail newsyslog[50653]: logfile turned over Since this occurred i did updated OpenSSH to 5.2p1 (since I thought it was the problem until I looked at the logs more closely) to the latest in the BSD ports and also OpenSSL to 1.0.0_2 But the error still occurs if I uncomment the line in /etc/hosts.allow Any suggestions? -- 'I'll tell you this!' shouted Rincewind.
