Actually, DenyHosts doesn't work in 10.8 or 10.9, in terms of actually blocking 
IP addresses.

This is presumably because SSHD in 10.8 and 10.9 does not look at tcp wrappers.

Yes, DenyHosts can be installed and even add IP addresses to /etc/hosts.deny, 
but it won't actually be blocking IP addresses from that file.
