The notion of "resolved path" may be opaque to some users. Perhaps we ought to 
be more explicit, at least in the main syntax section, and say something like: 
Even if you specify no colon in the database name, the name of the directory in 
which the database is created (as determined by the current directory or the 
property "derby.system.home") cannot contain a colon.

I tend to view this as an implementation bug, though.... so perhaps we should 
leave it as is(?)
