Actually RAND is not a synonym for RANDOM.
ij> values rand();
ERROR 42Y03: 'RAND' is not recognized as a function or procedure.
RAND is a broken function that takes an INTEGER seed parameter. It's to match
the JDBC escaped function spec but it's broken because it will always return
the same value for a given seed.
