That line is only part of modules.properties in the source tree. If you modify 
modules.properties in derby.jar, just deleting the other properties Mike 
mentioned should be OK.

If this is the same issue as DERBY-3606 (same reporter, same symptoms), I'd 
assume the NIO changes are not causing the problem, as that bug was reported 
against 10.2.2.0. The NIO code was introduced in 10.3.1.4.
