When I test, I use derby.properties containing:
derby.connection.requireAuthentication=true
derby.database.sqlAuthorization=true
Works for me. If you can't make it work, feel free to send me your program.
Note that
derby.connection.requireAuthentication is static so you need a reboot of the
engine if you set
it programmatically.
