After the commit for DERBY-4899 the patch no longer applies cleanly.
I'm working on a new version, in which I will rename some methods, do some
changes to the error handling, and move the invalidation to after all
statistics for an index have been generated.
I expect to post the revised version early next week. I find that the daemon
code is a bit hard to read, so if you plan to have a look I would wait for the
next rev :)
