Mike Matrigali updated DERBY-4874:
----------------------------------
I looked at the test and the ouput. It has the feel of a test/timing issue
independant of mamta's change to me, but can't be sure until we can reproduce
it. My first guess is that there is some interaction going on with the
background clean up thread and the test thread leading to the timeout. The set
of fixtures right before this error have some large blobs and multiple rows.
The delete tests then delete the rows and this is going to generate a lot of
background cleanup work. Then the first thing the next test does is drop the
table with all that work, but each unit of work is going to run and then fail
once the drop succeeds.
It definitely seems like a timing thing as in the following tinderbox failure,
one fixture fails, but the next one which
does pretty much the same thing succeeds.:
http://dbtg.foundry.sun.com/derby/test/tinderbox_10.4_16/jvm1.6/testing/testlog/SunOS-5.10_i86pc-i386/1057487-org.apache.derbyTesting.functionTests.suites.All_diff.txt
The most recent failure the last 2 fixures fail, and then no other fixtures are
set to run.
Some info that might support this theory:
o what kind of machine are the 10.4 and 10.3 tinderbox runs running on? Are
they single cpu - maybe slower than where the other tests are running.
o This test does not seem to set lock timeout, but is there a chance it is
running with a less than default lock timeout.
Thinking about it, it might be a simple project to add the current
locktimeout setting to the error message - might help
support with lock timeout issues.
o It might help to add the full lock table dump on the lock timeout for this
test.
