The other approach to this issue is to work *with* the Derby community to add extensibility to Derby in the areas required. Then it's a win-win for everyone. Derby is already desgined for internal and external (in some areas) extensibility, and we are adding more. Doesn't hurt to ask on the derby-dev list what is possible. Dan.
