Yes, I was a participant in that thread. I tried a couple of times each
sending
the requested "blank email" both with and without a subject and each was
rejected as spam. I never tried adding anything to the body. Finally I did
receive the confirmation email instructing me to click the provided link to
send confirmation back that I really wanted to subscribe. I did that and it
was
also rejected as spam. Again I tried both with and without a subject line.
Finally, I searched around the Apache main site until I found a contact
address the suggested it would actually go to a person. I emailed it with
a description of my problem, including the link from the confirmation email.
The next day I received another email from the autoresponder that I had
successfully subscribed. The whole ordeal consumed several days and
probably consisted to close to a dozen emails.

Hello,
It seems many people are facing similar problems getting on to the
user-list.
Follow this link for one such thread,

Hi Kristian,
Last week I tried to subscribe using a gmail account, and it was not as
easy as you describe. When I sent the emails with no subject and no
message body, I got them in return with the following message:
[...]
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
<mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 12): 552 spam score (5.5) exceeded
threshold
[...]
The workaround was to write something in the subject and message body.

Fernanda

Well, just so you'd know, is is even more difficult to unsubscribe.
Hi Mirit,
Could you share some information about what made it difficult?
If anyone else had problems, feel free to document them here...
To get an idea of what this is all about, I decided to join the list
with another account:
1) Went to http://db.apache.org/derby/derby_mail.html for instructions
(basically just to get the mail addresses).
2) I sent an empty mail (no subject, no msg body) to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
3) Got confirmation request mail, just hit reply and then send.
4) Got final confirmation that I was subscribed.
5) Sent an empty mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to
unsubscribe.
6) Got confirmation request mail regarding my wish to unsubscribe.
7) Hit reply and send.
8) Got final confirmation that I was unsubscribed.
The eight steps above took at most 5 minutes (including writing this
mail). In my experience, it was pretty quick and painless.
For those who had problems, which step(s) failed to complete/work?
regards,
