Well - what is worse: to go with a sub-optimal choice from the very announcement of 3.4.0, and improve it on Monday / Tuesday, or not to lead the users at all, leave them confused of 'what the heck should I use, when you offer both versions'? I'd really love to see Bernhard's or Vamsi's work there from the very beginning, and exchange it with something else should there need be later.
