When this was discussed, the main issue was to *avoid* the
necessity of localised icons; just using *A*,/A/,_A_
everywhere as universal symbols.
Then (Mirek) opted for lowercase *a*,/a/,_a_ which in my
opinion is prone to much more controversy.
But since we don't have any means of cognitive testing of
such details, we can't really judge.
But I'm still convinced that capital *A*,/A/,_A_'s are more
widely recognised as symbolising the Roman alphabet (and
less prone to font details) than lowercase *a*,/a/,_a_.
