Could you post the log of the IRC chat on the wiki? About the icon: Are you using 3d graphics software to produce it? It's probably better to use Inkscape, as then you have full control over the details and the shadows and glows and you're able to adjust the icon for various resolutions. Gnome's detailed icons are produced in Inkscape. [1] Also, the viewing angle is different from the standard Android one. Take a look at https://developer.android.com/design/style/iconography.html and the way the messaging icon looks.
