I have produced both the checkmark mouseover icon AND the eye
mouseover icon as promised below. What is the best way to test both of
these approaches? Sequentially in subsequent builds?
Once the sidebar has been tweaked to allow the new size to display
correctly and the mouse down event to work, you can simply substitute
the relevant png on your local machine and test all you want without
having to wait for a new build. Going around with your machine and
showing one and the other alternatively will give you quite a bit of
valuable feedback I think. If all you want is a visual check, that's the
fastest approach.
If you want feedback from dogfood users "in the wild", you may want to
commit alternative png just before a checkpoint build. That being said,
I don't think lots of dogfooders are using the checkpoint builds right
now. It's either the last released alpha or a daily build. At least,
that's what I gather from the bugs I see logged. So may be you should
commit one set of png one week and post here to say "this is eye icon
week, let me know if you like it" and commit them again the next week
with the alternative design and post a "this is the check icon week"
message. I can see that approach giving you more feedback and exposure.
Cheers,
- Philippe
