Okay, picking up this thread from April!

I have finally produced the sidebar-collection-overlay-widget icons.

NOTE: In order for the icons to look right (aligned with the text), we need to shorten the row height of each row in the sidebar to be 19 pixels high, instead of 20 pixels high.

The default sidebar collection icon for user-defined attributes is supposed to represent a Label...to reinforce the notion that collections are just labels on items.

I have produced both the checkmark mouseover icon AND the eye mouseover icon as promised below. What is the best way to test both of these approaches? Sequentially in subsequent builds?

From Left to right:

Label collection icon - Not Overlayed

Check icon Mouseover
Check icon Mousedown
OR
Eye icon Mouseover
Eye icon Mousedown

Label collection icon - Overlayed
Label collection icon - Overlayed Mouseover
Label collection icon - Overlayed Mousedown

In the future, if/when we support different types of Labels (e.g. People labels, Location labels, Date/time labels, Status labels, Value labels, we would have a different Collection icon for each label type). For now, we only have the generic Label Label.

The icons are checked into SVN. And this work item is logged as a bug: https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6569

I have pulled together a summary on the wiki of all past (documented) discussions and visual explorations of the sidebar checkbox collection icons.

+ I have 2 sets that are ready for A/B testing. The second uses the checkmark icon. The first uses an ?? icon. Can you guess what it is?

I'm showing all the states for each set:

Active
Rollover
Mousedown
Checked
Checked Rollover
Checked Mousedown

I used the clock and rabbit icons as placeholders for now, because it was easier to work with. We still have unresolved issues about what we want the App area icons to be in 0.7.

Feel free to add comments directly to the page or reply to the list.

Thx!
