I'm pulling this issue out of the the "'Bare minimum' proposal for CC Cosmo UI" thread so I may summarize. Here is the thread for your reference: http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/design/2006- November/005665.html

Currently on Cosmo there is a 'Remove' and 'Save' button at the bottom of the event details. If the user fills out the form and clicks away, nothing is actually saved until the user selects the 'Save' button.

*Discussions/Proposals*
It has been proposed to add a 'Cancel' button at the bottom to revert edits and changes back to the way it looked initially. This may be very useful to the user once the event details grows with stamping/ dashboard form elements.

There is also some confusion with the term 'Cancel' and what it means. Other terms such as 'Reset' has been proposed.

Adding another button at the bottom of the event details is also an issue for design and a proposal was suggested as a compromise to prompt a dialog box if the user clicks away. This will help confirm if the user wanted to save the changes made or 'Cancel' and revert back to the original changes on the event details.

There is also the proposal to allow auto save, but there may be technical issues with that and is really out of scope for Preview. We will table that discussion until post-Preview.

*Next Steps*
Concerns for having a 'Cancel' button have been addressed, though there didn't seem to be a strong consensus to work this into the design just yet. We could move forward with the compromise proposal (prompting for a dialog box), but that may bring up other usability issues which have not been addressed in the thread, for example recurring events.

It seems for now keeping with the current design ('Remove' and 'Save' buttons) is fine for Preview. We will revisit this issue again when we receive some more concrete feedback from dog-food users or users post Preview.
