Hi Jared, part of the design is to have hint text in the text field
that says: Create new item. I'm hoping that will clear things up :o)

Huh. For no particular reason, I thought that the box would
"default" to a search function. That is, a string that didn't
start with a slash would be interpreted as a search string.
That seems an improvement in the design, making search more
discoverable and saving keystrokes, with no loss in function.
