Grant, I thought the idea of letting recipients change 'Send as' to 'Sent by' via sharing would work, but I realized that that wouldn't solve the case where the Chandler user is sending items to either non- Chandler users or Chandler users they aren't sharing with.

What's hard about changing 'Sent by' back to 'Send as' if there's an error? Is it changing the byline field? Or recovering the correct email account to display in the pulldown. The first part is crucial, but the second part is a nice to have I think. We can just display whatever is the default account, even if it's not the email account that was used to Send the message.

As for the issue below...see inline:

What if the item is synced but not sent? I still think it should say "Send as" and not switch to "Updated by" (i.e. emailness always win). Is that ok?

Actually, the stamping spec currently has this the other way around.

Oh is that true? Where do you see that Grant? So long as the item has not been Sent, the Send as: field prevails. 'Updated by' only appears if the item has been 'Updated' by clicking on the 'Update' button in the toolbar. Hopefully, I'm not misunderstanding everybody.

I had thought the Send as: field prevailed, too. But then I went and looked at the spec, and doubt entered my mind:

Edited by appears if:

* Item has been edited, while the user is editing, regardless of whether it has been Sent/Updated or not * At this point, if the item has been stamped and addressed, the value for the Edited by field is a pulldown where the user can select an email account to Send the item from; OR contains a prompt to set up their email account info.

To me, that sounded as if Edited by was going to win.

Ahh yes, you are correct.
