I spent a fair amount of time to teach eject to do exactly that: unmount
all partitions of a device before powering off the device. Since
unmounting all partitions of a drive one by one, unmounting them all  at
once saves unnecessary work, too.

I have always considered that a nice feature. Why do you think it is
desirable to only unmount some partitions of a drive?
