Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since
this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work,
I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.
Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

After going to Edit->Preferences and checking the box for "Show Hidden
and Backup Files", the hidden files do not appear unless nautilus is
restarted or the session initially started with this option enabled
(then disabled and re-enabled).  I notice the same problem with a root
session of nautilus (either with gksudo or su).  Bug confirmed in Hardy
Heron.

GNOME nautilus 2.22.3
