Sorry, I first tought this would work like the fields in the gnome "Keyboard Shortcuts" panel. (Click on it then do the shortcut you want) I later figured out that it's just an ordinary text field.
But I still think it's a problem, since gnome is made to be easy to use you should be able to just configure it like every other shortcut like the "Keyboard Shortcuts" panel in Preferences.
