Actually, I can reproduce this bug even after I deleted my old configuration (that is, when the default configuration is in place).
Steps to reproduce the bug on my system: 1) rm -r ~/.gconf/apps/panel/ # "restore" default configuration 2) killall gconfd-2 # make sure the new configuration is read 3) Then start gnome-panel; everything is fine. 4) Remove the notification area applet; the panel crashes, then reloads and crashes continuously, until you do steps 1) and 2) again Shall I open a new bug for this? Thank you for your very prompt support. The relevant section of .xsessions-error follows: The program 'gnome-panel' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'. (Details: serial 3389 error_code 8 request_code 1 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) ** ERROR:poa.c:1028:ORBit_POA_activate_object_T: assertion failed: ((poa->life_flags & ORBit_LifeF_DeactivateDo) == 0) -- Gnome panels continuously crash, then reload https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/465464 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
