This bug is affecting me as well on 10.4 Lucid Lynx LTS. Right click on the desktop to switch icon alignment off and gconf-editor to toggle the icon alignment do not work. Gconf-editor says 'nautilus-icon-view-keep- aligned' key in '/apps/nautilus/desktop-metadata/directory' has no schema.
