I have just tried setting up both POP and SMTP on Microsoft Outlook on
my laptop... and they both work fine, it took me only a few minutes to
do it. (I had to change port numbers to those noted on my ISP provider's
website, and to enter the password to be used for SMTP (which there are
entry boxes for in Outlook - it was all self-explanatory...) so I can
only conclude that some changes are needed in Ubuntu Evolution... even
IF a work- around is found (and clicking "Cancel" and trying again does
NOT work), it's not really good enough that one can't open the program
and just get on with it... Microsoft managed it! That's not being rude
as Ubuntu has been great in many ways but I am shocked that a bug
brought up years ago has not been worked on - not being able to get mail
is VERY serious for many people. Please guys, escalate this one. Thanks
Jules
