I just installed Ubuntu 16.04 and have the same problem, but only when I
launch gedit as root . and in the gedit window I can't access menu.
sudo gedit /etc/fstab
[sudo] Mot de passe de joelle :
** (gedit:27737): WARNING **: Set document metadata failed: La
définition de l'attribut metadata::gedit-position n'est pas
prise en charge
When I launch gedit in terminal as user there is no problem.
