I'm with the same problem when I try to edit grub config file. So
searched over another places and found this:


"If I recall correctly from a previous discussion about this sort of thing, the 
problem is that when you su to root a lot of your environment which is required 
for the correct running of Gnome GUI apps is not set up appropriately. The 
consensus from the developers seemed to be that running GUIs as root was 
generally a bad idea and should not be encouraged.

Perhaps an alternative (nano?) or just use vi."

If I've understood right I've to switch to another editor. So I'll try
the same line in terminal switching "gedit" for "nano".

I've switched to "sudo nano gedit /boot/grub/grub.cfg" and sucess until
now. I've to reboot and see if grub is now with the new settings ready
to go.
