Thanks. I can see the Wayland session failed to start because it was
killed (bug 2077216). And then the X11 session seems to have started but
then hit:
Oct 09 15:32:49 Sam-acer-notebook gnome-shell[1938]: JS ERROR: Error: Unknown
item {"id":"ubuntu-xorg"}
_resolveItem@resource:///org/gnome/shell/gdm/authMenuButton.js:183:19
setActiveItem@resource:///org/gnome/shell/gdm/authMenuButton.js:194:39
_onDefaultSessionChanged@resource:///org/gnome/shell/gdm/loginDialog.js:1051:33
@resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/init.js:21:20
which *might* be the fatal problem. To confirm this please reinstate the
"hack" to work around bug 2077216 and reproduce the black screen problem
in Wayland. Then collect more logs:
journalctl -b0 > curboot.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt
** Package changed: mutter (Ubuntu) => gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
