Hi Daniel, To clarify: I am using i3wm with lightdm, which is why you don't see any gnome-shell logs.
This is not an application crash (Thunderbird or Remmina), but a complete system-wide GPU hang. When it happens: The entire screen freezes. I cannot switch to TTY or use the Magic SysRq keys. It happens randomly during various tasks (Remote Desktop in Remmina, browsing in Thunderbird, or even printing to PDF). Crucial info: This is a kernel regression. The system is 100% stable on kernel 6.17. The freezes only occur on the new 7.x kernel provided with Ubuntu 26.04. There is a secondary regression: Brightness keys (Fn+F5/F6) are dead in 7.x (no events in xev), but work perfectly in 6.17. It seems the i915 driver in the new kernel is struggling with this Asus hardware (UX331UA). Please let me know which specific debug logs I should provide while running the 7.x kernel to help you pinpoint the GPU hang.
