The whole point of a virtual file system is exactly that kind of feature. Mounting tarballs, isos, or remote file systems. On the other hand, developers have limited time to spend on their projects, and is up to them to prioritize and spend their time wherever and whenever they think is better. That's the way it works, if you think there's room from improvement, none will say it isn't, but is up to you to work on fixing those areas. Complaining about developers priorities is pretty much a waste of time, you won't stop them to work on what they're doing. That's the way it uses to work on open source projects, at least is the way it works in GNOME. If you want to help the GNOME community, please, don't assume people is wrong, instead, try to understand why do they do what they do, and if you have a personal feeling that some areas need improvement, work to improve them, the best way to show that a developer is wrong, is not a mailing list, is by writing better code.
