The backtrace in that bug hints that a11y may be running a recursive main loop inside gtk_widget_show(); I don't know if that's still true, but if it is, imo turning on a11y would be unacceptable until it's fixed. This is an inherently buggy and dangerous thing to do *especially* in metacity but in every application really. It's a Heisenbug extravaganza. It's not like this is a new or unknown problem.
