[...] That does look usefull. And I'll probably come back to it. But I'd very much like to understand how networking is intended to work. It seems pretty unreasonable for static networking to be difficult. Or to require a reboot of any kind. One should be able to stop networking and restart under manual control easily and expect it to `just work'. In fact even in an emergency login, root should be able to ifconfig/route up a network in a few commands and edits. I don't understand the layers of interace inbetween the hardcore tools and the user. Of course I understand a tool that you just click or whatever, but the workings behind it should not be all that difficult to do by hand if so desired. I followed all the steps laid out in the system admin manual but on reboot, (I saw no way at all to just restart something although I did disable/enable physical:default a few times) I have a network that only works locally. No dns resolution. (I tried to give enough diagnostic information in another post here)
