What Solaris release are you running? If it's Solaris Express build 58
thru 60 or so, there was a known issue[1] with pkgadd of datasteam
packages. The workaround was to use pkgtrans to convert them to "file
system" format first. Generally, pkgadd should be able to process both
formats of package, and you wouldn't have to use pkgtrans...
