you need to take into account that open-sourcing a product like CDE is 
not an easy thing that somebody can do at the weekend before lunch. It 
requires a lot of engineering and legal due diligence to separate the 
stuff you own (and thus are able to open-source) and the stuff you 
licensed yourself.

So if there is no strong demand for yet another open-source desktop to 
create even more friction and fraction in the open source community we 
might want to concentrate on what's already out there :-)
