I wonder if it's fair to say Apple are the company responsible for setting and continuing to set this particular trend. Mac OS X was eye candy on a level not seen before in an OS. It ran like a pig initially, and it took several years before the OS could be called responsive (around the Mac OS 10.4 era on PowerMac hardware). Still not what I could call lightning fast however.
Certainly the undeniably impressive set of trinkets in Mac OS X have been copied in some way shape or form by just about every other OS I can think of. Alt-tab with Compiz enabled *is* Apple Coverflow, pure and simple. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
