Are you using LDAP for name service (/etc/nsswitch.conf) as well? On Linux there's https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=292127 which comes from a symbol conflict in OpenLDAP and MozLDAP, perhaps this is something similar? -- James Andrewartha
