The old method which still works is to write a script and dump it into
/etc/init.d. Then you would link it to /etc/rc?.d. The ? corresponds to which
run level you want the service to start in.
The new method is to write a service manifest and then use the services
facility to manage the service.
You should probably start with the basic admin guide for Solaris 11 Express on
docs.oracle.com under Solaris 11.

Same goes for OpenIndiana (with IllumOS OS/Net consolidation) that is
successor of OpenSolaris with same liberal usage rights and open source
development.
So you could continue to use OpenIndiana, upgrading from OpenSolaris if
wanting opensource Solaris for unrestricted use.
Solaris11 Express have closed source OS/Net and Oracle ZFS that is
incompatible with any other open ZFS implementation , so should not be
installed first on disk. (but could exist in separate BE if upgraded
from OpenSolaris snv_134b,same as OpenIndiana). And also it have usage
restrictions that stops it from using on any production, but testing,
unless yearly license per cpu is payed to Oracle (on Oracle hardware..) .
Minor nit: It does NOT need to be on Oracle hardware.
Cheers!
Nathan.
