Title:
Gnome Desktop functions for XFCE gone after upgrade

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Hi,

when running XFCE under ubuntu, desktop functionality is by default
drastically reduced, e.g. no dynamic icons for documents on the
  desktop.

You can usually get this missing functionality by enabling the Gnome
Desktop startup in the XFCE settings, which then starts nautilus after
login, or to start nautilus manually like

  /usr/bin/nautilus --no-default-window

However, since upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04, this does not work anymore, nautilus
is not willing to start anymore. When starting it from the commandline it just
says

  % /usr/bin/nautilus --no-default-window
  Initializing nautilus-gdu extension
  Shutting down nautilus-gdu extension

  and then exits.

  regards
